Comment: The Old-Time Herald has long bridged the waters between traditional old-time music and new traditional. Within the pages of the Herald old-time music lovers can discover well-written and informative articles on tunes and song histories, obscure musical traditions or luminaries of the field. In addition the writing comes from writers of every ilk-from professional to amateur musical historians giving the magazine a great egalitarian feel. Their annual festival issue is a tool to be used well.
OTH covers it all, and covers it well. Because of the diverse musical types covered by the "old-time" category-string bands, klezmer, country blues-a single issue of the Old-TIme Herald can sometimes feel like a mixed bag. But this is part of old-time's frustration and charm.
