Summary: The Dating Game Album and a picture of Dolores Erickson or a look-alike
Comment: It is a fun and cheerful album. It was a departure from the Latin music songs used to more pop and contemprary songs. Apparently it worked, because sales of Alpert and Tijuana Brass took off.

Many of the songs on the album were featured on the popular ABC show The Dating Game. Each song used had a role: The song "Whipped Cream" was the girl contestant intro theme, the song "Spanish Flea" was the guy contestant intro theme, and, "Lollipops and Roses" was used when either the bachelor or bachelorette learned about the person chosen for the date. Listening to the songs, I can just imagine Jim Lange on the show.

Now the cover of the album : model Dolores Erickson wearing chiffon and shaving cream made the cover. The remix cover for the rewhipped used another model that could be an effort to have a knockoff look. When the picture was taken for the 1965 album cover, Dolores Erickson was three months pregnant. I've often thought that the unknown (to the public) pregnancy added to her visual aura to make the picture even more alluring.

Prior to this album, Alpert used LA session musicians. This album is the beginning of the actual Tijuana Brass Ensemble. Brass members (John Pisano and Bob Edmondson) worked with session musicians. One point of trivia: Russell Bridges, a session man played piano on the album. We now know him as Leon Russell.

A FYI: the model on the Rewhipped CD is Bree Condon and not Dolores. A different model and the picture lacks the beauty of the 1965 Album cover. The aura of the 1965 cover is not there.

Summary: My own "Whipped Cream" fantasy
Comment: I have fond memories of this album from my childhood. I remember my mother trying to hide the album cover because it was so racy for the times(at least in So. LA). But the folks did play it often. The music is still great. It sound as wonderful today as it did forty years ago. It stands the test of time.

Editorial Reviews:

40th Anniversary Edition Of The Classic Album!

1965's Whipped Cream & Other Delights transformed Herb Alpert & The Tijuana into bonafide superstars, spending an incredible 8 straight weeks at the top of the charts. The album was not only memorable for its music, but for the iconic cover art which featured model Dolores Erickson strategically swathed in whipped cream. The original twelve tracks revolve around the theme of food and include such classics the triple Grammy-winning hit, "A Taste of Honey" and the Dating Game theme "Whipped Cream." This special 40th Anniversary edition features two studio bonus tracks along with a 20-page booklet and a collector's poster.

Each album in the Herb Alpert Signature Series features meticulously remastered sound, deluxe packaging, detailed liner notes, and an intro by Herb Alpert containing personal recollections and anecdotes.
