Customer Rating: Summary: Guy Gets Guy Comment: Zachary, Drew. "Once Upon a Veterinarian", Torquere Press, 2008.
Guy Gets Guy
Amos Lassen
Ben is a guy who seems to have everything going for him. He is a veterinarian who is doing well, he has a great dog, he loves his local Chinese restaurant and he has a fabulous DVD collection (except for the vet this sounds very familiar). What he is lacking is someone special to share his life.
Suddenly a number of poisoned animals are being brought into him and Ben suspects that these are not random happenings so he calls the police. Into his clinic and his life comes Tim who, even though animal poisonings are not high priorities, decides to take the case. The two guys share a mutual attraction but issues in life threaten to keep them apart. The question they face is whether or not their busy lives are busy enough to keep them separated. Shifts and emergency calls threaten their happiness,
This is a cute read, a nice tender love story replete with cute animals and two hot men. Divided into two parts--the first when the guys try to overcome their schedules so they can be together and the second when they find a way to do so, the book reads fast. There is nothing deep; just a nice sweet story with a little sex.
Customer Rating: Summary: Happyily ever after Comment: Enjoyed this book very much. Was glad to see that it ended in a happy
ending.
Customer Rating: Summary: Aw shucks Comment: Zachary uses two of my favorite stereotypes in this novel: a gay cop and a gay veterinarian, has them both lovable and committed to their respective careers of service to others, both sexy and intriguing. He teases them (and us) for a while by letting them meet and fall hard for each other, but not be able to consummate their mutual attraction for a long time. Long enough that the cop assumes (wrongly) that the veterinarian is not really interested. When they do get together, it's all over warming and fun and the book is well worth a read, stereotypes or not. Enjoy.
Customer Rating: Summary: Once Upon a Veterinarian by Drew Zachary Comment: I like when Drew Zachary sets its story in Canada, since the gay issue is slightly lesser, and you can enjoy the guy meets guy, guy loves guy, guy gets guy without the usually hating and hiding feelings around. True, some hint here and there still remains, but it's more a light tease from colleague than a real ostracism.
Ben is a small pet vet; lately he has a lot of case of dying pets due to poisoning and so he thinks to call the police. Tim is the officer who picks up his case, and it's not the only thing he picks up... Tim has no problem to make clear to Ben that he is interested to get personal with him and they, easily as that, start to date. But both of them have works with shift and emergency call, and build a normal relationship is not simple.
Usually in a TQ's books you expect to find a lot of sex, soon and fast in the story; sometime I like that, one of my fav books from Drew Zachary is On Fire, and the two in the story get together in the first scene, without even have time to reach a bedroom. This one is a bit different: the book is divided in two part, in the first one the two lovers are almost "cursed", everytime they are at the point to hit home, something happens, and they need to postponed. It's both funny and exciting, since the reader starts to bet what will happen the next time.
In the second part, when finally they break the "curse", the sex starts as usual, funny and easy, a lot but not too much. At this point the reader would be enough satisfied, and instead Drew Zachary chooses to bring on the story and give us a glimpse on what happens after the happily ever after, since gets together sometime is the easy thing, but stay together is difficult and demanding.
I like this story since it has plot, it has sex and it has romance, but at the same time it's easy and smooth, funny rather than angst, fast but not too short (137 pages).

Ben has a good life. Partner in a thriving veterinarian clinic with his best friend Stacey, he has a great dog, a favorite Chinese take-out place and a great DVD collection. The only thing he doesn't have is a special someone to share his life with. When Ben has a number of poisoned animals come through his clinic, he call in the police, suspecting that these aren't random tragedies, but deliberate killings. Enter Constable Tim Geary. Dog and cat poisonings are fairly low on the priority list, but Tim decides to look into them. The attraction between Tim and Ben is immediate and soon Chinese food and more is on the menu. Life has a way of trying to keep the boys apart, though. Can they find a way to overcome their busy lives and be together?
