Customer Rating: Summary: Possibly His Worst Comment: I wont be long winded - I normally really enjoy Dean Koontz.
However this was just outright poor - the plot was weak, it felt like he changed his mind half way through as to the direction of the book.
I will carry on reading him - but I wish we could get some more Christopher Snow or Odd Thomas soon. (I also adored twilight eyes - wish that had been followed up as well).
Customer Rating: Summary: Really Enjoyed Comment: Another Dean Knootz's novel I enjoyed. It kept me in suspense until the very end. Dean Knootz did it again. Written another novel I really enjoyed. I highly recommend if you enjoy Dean Knootz or suspense novels.
Customer Rating: Summary: I'm a die hard fan but this was bad! Comment: I had a hard time getting through this. He is starting to get too philosophical like Stephen King. Not much ever happened. Definitely not the usual edge of your seat page turner like usual. I was disappointed with this like I was disappointed with Stephen King's Duma Key only worse. It was the 2nd time in my life I considered not finishing a book.
Customer Rating: Summary: The subtext apparently escaped me Comment: I'm a big Koontz fan, but this one's a dud. Perhaps Koontz filled it with his own personal meaning, but it doesn't make it through to the reader & I really don't care to reread the darn thing to search for worth.
I hope Mr. Koontz hasn't decided he knows better than any editor... he'll end up writing worthless best-sellers if he stays on this path.
Customer Rating: Summary: What A Shame Comment: Just over 2 hours since I turned the first page I placed the bookmark and arose from my comfortable recliner to take a walk to the kitchen. It was almost 11pm and time for the evening news but that wasn't my reason for making a pot of coffee. I was only half way through this book but had become so riveted I couldn't wait till morning to find its conclusion.
So far this had the potential to be a blockbuster! A rich man facing his own mortality with months to second guess every decision he's made. The battles within his own mind cause him to hallucinate, hear things, and imagine scenarios. Items seem to appear and disappear with a hint of paranormality. His attractive level headed girlfriend Samantha adds to his psychotic thinking by always talking in riddles and leaving it up to Ryan to decipher her meaning.
Man, what a build up! I was grinning from ear to ear. This was going to put Koontz far above King, Cussler, and Patterson with a big bold exclamation point!
The more I read the more mundane the book became. It slowly lost all
its spellbinding quality. Scenes repeated themselves. Characters that were intricately woven into the plot now became loosely tied. At the end I found myself asking "What the hell was that?"
I honestly don't think Koontz is capable of writing a quality ending.
The crescendo is there, and sometimes the oomph, but never the finish.
Hey, at least this book didn't contain the words "kevlar" and "highboy."
That's at least something.

At thirty-four, Internet entrepreneur Ryan Perry seemed to have the world in his pocket – until the first troubling symptoms appeared out of nowhere. Within days, he’s diagnosed with incurable cardiomyopathy and finds himself on the waiting list for a heart transplant; it’s his only hope, and it’s dwindling fast. Ryan is about to lose it all…his health, his girlfriend Samantha, and his life. One year later, Ryan has never felt better. Business is good and he hopes to renew his relationship with Samantha. Then the unmarked gifts begin to appear – a box of Valentine candy hearts, a heart pendant. Most disturbing of all, a graphic heart surgery video and the chilling message: Your heart belongs to me.
In a heartbeat, the medical miracle that gave Ryan a second chance at life is about to become a curse worse than death. For Ryan is being stalked by a mysterious woman who feels entitled to everything he has. She’s the spitting image of the twenty-six-year-old donor of the heart beating steadily in Ryan’s own chest.
And she’s come to take it back.
